ALL IS NOT LOST ... PALACE ~

BIO

Hybrid Louisville- and Austin-based Global Groove ensemble, Lost Palace, reads history in reverse, seeking to treat secondary sources as primary, subtext becoming text through the timeless, stateless, fearless language of Groove.

Born mid-Pandemic in a garage on the North Side of Austin, Lost Palace began by asking the question, “Why make music you can’t dance to?” Three friends became five became a multi-city musical community devoted to analog recording, high-energy performances and the relentless pursuit of pocket.

If to see is to forget the name of what one is looking at, then to hear is to forget the time before and the time after.

Always in every way. C’est pour l'instant enchanté.

Désolé / Discothéque

"Désolé" and "Discothéque" were the first tracks cut in the Last Place Records studio in Far East Austin, TX in the late Spring of 2022. This release represents, both for Lost Palace and for Last Place Records, a means-of-production proof-of-concept.

The debut offering from Austin-based trio, Lost Palace, embraces the nonlinear international intercultural intergenerational production (and re-production) of musical styles through time and space.

"Désolé" and "Discothéque" imagine a world in which Detroit Funk and Soul has been lost to history, but Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat Infinite Groove tops the charts. Neither Kraftwerk nor Chic are remembered but William Onyeabor’s Electro Afrofunk fills the air in crowded clubs. No Dick Dale nor Jimi Hendricks can be heard but Peruvian Psychedelic Chicha rings out.

Jeu Prolongé Numéro Deux

Recorded in a garage over a single weekend at the end of 2023, "Jeu Prolongé Numéro Deux" is a raw, exuberant, bittersweet celebration of eras ending and new journeys beginning.

Cut at the end of a busy schedule of live performances and directly preceding the departure of several members from the Austin area, the recordings are a live and unfiltered tribute to the stages and phases of the band to date, especially to the added textures of Brett Andacht on the keys and Jeff O'Neal on aux percussion.

While it is the last record the band would make while all its members were full-time residents of Austin, it would prove to be a rough-and-ready precursor to a wildly ambitious program of travel, co-writing, and sonic exploration that will find its home on a forthcoming 2026 full-length release.

The proceeds from sales of this record will go towards offsetting the costs associated with the travelling, recording, mixing, publication, and distribution of said record.

Big things coming.

[Work-In-Progress]

Recorded straight-to-tape over several trips to Montauk, Louisville, and Austin, "work-in-progress" is a commitment to the bonds of friendship, an anti-imperialist plea for social justice, and a love letter written in (and to) the global language of groove.

Please do not distribute without the written consent of Lost Palace.
